John, except for a few industries, the labor demanded by business today is for specialized and skilled folk. A base income would assist in the education and training necessary to fill these positions.

Business needs can drive the base income. Ironically, the Republican Party is better positioned to introduce a UBI should they ever get beyond MAGA. Milton Friedman championed the idea (although his concept was more about addressing poverty).

Manual work will continue to become automated, which is not a bad thing. I discuss this in "Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! Cry the Politicians" and welcome your comments -- or reaction.
