There is an inherent weakness in this kind of thinking. A terrible lack of confidence in the Democrats to win the presidency in 2024. Of deliberately seeking the weakest of opposition instead of standing up to and winning against the very best candidate the Republicans can provide.

The Democrats should prepare for 2024 with the attitude that the opposition is formidable. This will serve to "Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood" and get them PREPARED. Which they are currently NOT.

Both Biden and Harris are qualified to lose

Biden is past his time -- and not just in age (although that is enough to count him out). Harris has displayed zero political savvy and an ability to be continually unprepared. Remember, they would each have to campaign and win. In their last efforts they both were lack luster -- to put it politely. Joe's campaign was "dead man walking" (Van Jones) and he won the nomination as a default candidate. Kamala didn't make it to Iowa because of general lack of appeal and a campaign grossly mismanaged. Why in God's name would either win in 2024?

A new candidate needs finding. Nothing public can be done before the midterms, but certainly directly after that there needs to be some changes in order for the Democrats to have a decent chance of maintaining the White House. Let's try and face reality here.

Fortunately there is plenty of talent on the Democratic side. The one high on the list, and probably the most qualified, is Pete Buttigieg. He is clever, excellent communicator, has a big picture view of the world --and, has a leg in the middle of the country (which would count out the likes of Booker).

What we don't need is for Biden to be the default candidate again because of an appeasement to the left of the party who cannot get their choice.

Many thanks. Important article. Best to you.
