The cursory treatment of those left behind by the new dynamics contributed to the appearance of Donald Trump or another populist. America failed to provide an economic platform for people to spring anew.

For years, this insecurity has been the root of our difficulties. Unfortunately, Trump and Biden's solutions have been misguidedly focused on protectionism. Worse, many measures have set conditions for new rust belts when AI takes hold.

We are more obsessed with job retention and creation than making people more secure. Jobs are the cart, not the horse.
