There is likely a mixture of motivations for supporting Donald Trump, from an understanding that taxes will be lower to protection from a host of threats—the main one being displacement of some kind.

The threat, real or perceived, is based on the fear of being left behind and becoming valueless. In this mode, the flaws of a Godsend such as Donald Trump are bypassed.

In the 2016 election, Trump made his connection to the middle of America when he lifted kids into the sky with his helicopter. Clinton made her disconnect with half the country with her "deplorables" statement.

Until we address the underlying issues, we will have more Donald Trump masters shepherding this flock and FOX stations and commentators cashing in.
