Joel, you're right. Donald Trump has found himself on the wrong side of this -- along with Tucker Carlson and others. Putin, Russia, Ukraine, Europe and democracy.

The tragedy in Ukraine could well have brought forth more voices (and more moderate voices) from the Republican party. As with the Left, the extremes drown out the middle.

Republicans have opportunities to take the issues away from Democrats. They have the big audience but little content where Democrats have perhaps the reverse -- although, now are struggling with both.

For instance, the Republicans (if they were deft) could take over climate (possibly even healthcare) and offer it more universal appeal (in the private sector for one). This would be similar to how Tony Blair's NEW Labor was able and better positioned to continue the Margaret Thatcher's necessary structural reforms but were unable to complete under the Tories.

Some aspiring leadership needs surfacing. That, for sure. Perhaps changing the name to the NEW Republican Party would help distance the past.

Many thanks. Good article. Best to you.
