Joel, valid question and should be discussed.
I think it wise to avoid that direction for the reasons that you point out. It's not for us to decide and we can not bring that about anyway.
That said, we can be helpful to ordinary Russians with general engagement to better their lives. Unfortunately with Putin's invasion of Ukraine this becomes considerably more difficult.
One thing that we can do is make a distinction between acts of Putin and that of Russia. It struck me recently that in a statement from Obama consistently referred to Russia instead of Putin.
If not Putin, at least Putin's Russia is responsible for XYZ.
Bravo to Zelensky for his leadership and bravery. Whatever happens going forward he has been enormously helpful to Ukraine -- and, America. We have folk in Congress who lose their spines over the threat, not of being killed, but of acknowledging facts.
