Jerren Gan, passionate article.
Corporations are motivated by profit, and to gain that, they deliver products that folk want to buy at the best price.
The "Greed" aspect is no more than it has been for centuries and exists among individuals in the same measure. It's a famous rant that serves no one particularly well.
We need to try and open markets more, but it's tricky. Legislators have never been great champions for consumers (e.g., Biden's protection of the credit card industry profits). When they say they are, they generally get it wrong (e.g., Sanders advocating rent control in cities).
The U.S. is becoming increasingly nationalist, and protectionist moves prices up. Self-sufficiency in markets does the same thing. Joe Biden's "Buy American" causes inflation. Cities will likely be obliged, if not forced, to replace bus fleets with EVs made in the USA when the better value may exist elsewhere.
The likes of Amazon SAVE us money by excellent service and value that can't be matched by Mom and Pop stores. Other retailers lower their pricing (and dismiss shipping costs) to compete. Do we want to return to buying groceries as before the supermarket? I don't think so.
Joe Biden could immediately remove the tariff on Chinese goods. That would return about $500 to your and my pocket every year. Prescription drugs DON'T have to come from within the U.S. That would save my medical bill around $25,000 per year.
Many thanks.
