Jerren Gan, Amazon delivers great products and services. It also has raised the bar on both for competitors. In short: great for consumers.
Does Amazon occupy too much of the market? and actually hinder innovation, choice and better pricing? That is certainly a concern and can be addressed by our antitrust watch dogs and laws. But this done for the right reasons and not simply because we hate big corporations.
Amazon opperates and grows without making a profit. We all actually benefit from that in downward pressure on pricing but leaves other companies (that need to make a profit) squeezed. A value added tax would balance the playing field and close that corporate tax shelter.
Amazon at some point could well go bust (when it ceases to grow) and before that time have a Sears-like wind down period of failing to deliver what folk want. But until then I am taking advantage of having Amazon.
Many thanks
