Jared A. Brock, through the centuries we have deliberately done away with work and jobs. This is how we have reached our present standard of living and can continue going higher (I'm looking forward to driverless cars myself). We are constantly trying through innovation to make things better, easier and less expensive.
Do we wish to return to washing clothes by hand or riding a horse to the supermarket?
There are concerns though that the rapid pace of automation will be upsetting to many in the labor market from checkout clerks to doctors. But there are ways to counter these side effects. It's very important that we recognize them and take measures so that people don’t get left behind. Unfortunately this was not addressed with globalization which benefited most enormously but a few not.
One relatively simple solution is to introduce some kind of base income for individuals and families to spend how they wish and to be able to adjust their lives.
A huge fallacy exists that billionaires take money away from us. Generally they do the opposite. They give us very easy shopping, spearhead a change to electric cars and provided us with software for our computers and phones that we all use.
Many thanks.
