James, you ask all necessary questions which demand answers. I admit I can't answer them all.
You assume that the incentive to produce would be lost if an income is guaranteed. That our neighbor (or you and I) would become couch potatoes. No doubt some would (though certainly not us). But because of the Base Income, you and I are more prosperous, productive, and happier; our neighbor's behavior doesn't matter.
Inflation is an issue to be managed from the supply side.
The primary objective of the Base Income is to get more talent to rise and increase productivity. It's not charity. It would diminish the fears associated with the engines of our productivity and prosperity. The engines of automation, globalization, and immigration would be freed from the attacks they are now under.
