James M. Ridgway, lots of passion. But Democrats would have served themselves better by long ago moving on from the Cinema and Manchin distraction.
I guess one way of diminishing the failure of BBB was to follow up with an even bigger failure. Manchin and Cinema were never to be relied upon to get this legislation passed. Going after a general voting rights bill and changing the filibuster was futile if not grossly stupid.
The really dangerous part of voting rights is specific. It's not how they are cast or even counted but how the results are handled. This should have been targeted and probably done so at the local level.
Unfortunately Democrats over the years withdrew from small towns, rural and much of the middle of the country. This desperately needs changing -- and it can be done, although it's plain stuff and not Hollywood. It will take time, a lot of effort and money. Please note that Democrats contributed to the divisiveness we have today.
The filibuster? forget it. It was NEVER doable. Parts of the BBB can be QUIETLY worked on and having all parties on board then presented as a success.
Many thanks
