James Fallows, I'm unconvinced that any moderator could have handled the sitution much better. Should Chris Wallace had more deliberately reminded Trump of the rules the evening could have veered off into a confrontation between President and Moderator.

Trump was hellbent on disrupting, destroying the occassion marked on so many peoples calendars to watch. You could say it was a synopsis of his term in office -- of tearing things down and building nothing.

Absolutely, there can be further Presidential debates but we may have to wait for a replacement President where understanding of protocol, manners can serve us all again.
