Is Kamala Harris up to the Job of President?

We’ve GOT to Talk About This.

In these weekly TAKE on OPINION’s from the New York Times I now introduce a (mostly) political cartoon unrelated to my article — it’s simply something else. This week it is “My Next Big Lie”.

Biden is off in Europe talking with all our past pals plus Putin. There is anxiety in the air concerning whether America is a reliable partner. Certainly Joe offers welcome relief from his predecessor, but what happens in 2025? When this U.S. President will be 84? Does the Vice President take over? — or, will a Trump infused Republican be in the White House to reverse the decisions again?

The Europeans want to know. We should too — especially Democrats.

Frank Bruni (who unfortunately is to wrap up his regular columns in the New York Time by the end of June) raises the question of Kamala Harris and her abilities to take on the tasks in hand — and, perhaps the presidency. His title “Kamala Harris Can’t Win” left some measured ambiguity as to what he was referring to. Both defending and exposing her, most importantly (if somewhat indirectly) Bruni moves us to think about what we don’t want to think about — an unhealthy complacency that could lose Democrats the White House.
