Ira Rampil, some answers are simple, but getting them in place is complicated.

To grow its prosperity, Israel can't exist in a state of siege. It has got to get along with its neighbors -- and progress was taking place.

Israel can do damage to Hamas but can't destroy it militarily any more than the UK could destroy the IRA in Ireland. But Israel could encourage more of Hamas into a political wing and away from the military.

Palestinians can be weaned from Hamas's extremes with aspiration, a promise that their lives can be better. A Palestinian state is essential and can be the centerpiece of a regional agreement for security and prosperity. Saudi Arabia is positioned to be most helpful.

Many thanks. Best.
