Important, George, because ceasing to communicate with bunches of people paints ME into an isolated community. We can enjoy people without necessarily agreeing with their weird ideas. Most of the time, they are incidental and focus on the agreements and what can be discussed carries the day.
Christianity and religion generally can be considered conspiracy theories. Same as political dogma.
When beliefs get in the way of general well-being (like vaccines, guns and safety belts), addressing them becomes essential, and your advice is pretty sound. Confrontation usually creates a wall.
Up front agreeing (even giving praise) with people does wonders. And makes space for the nuances of an argument. Many on Medium on the left (and right) will at least tick my comments when I approach with care.
Many thanks. Best.
