Ian Dunt, you may remind yourself that Boris Johnson is the constant opportunist and has simply been the man to champion events. The undoing of Britain was before.

A bulk of Britain’s quiet voters in the middle may have just wanted to move on — accepting Brexit as decided and restore some sort of knowing. They were probably not especially swayed by Boris Johnson’s discord with the truth — as this is something they know. Unfortunately, the Labor Party leader and proposals (and the possibility of a new referendum) offered inadequate attractions. Jeremy Corbyn (a bit of a Hamlet character really) could well be blamed for his part (or lack of it) in the original referendum result.

Having made the Brexit decision, Britain has to work very hard indeed to reestablish its position in the world. Trade, industry, culture, international influence and the unforeseen are all damaged. Is it possible that England retracts to a small backwater country is was before Henry V11? — let’s hope not.

Maybe a worthwhile note from history — it took New Zealand roughly 20 years to recover from severed trade with the UK when it joined the European Community. It was a decision New Zealanders did not make and were focused and hell bent in their move to a new position.
