I would say not.

That said, the support for Trump is probably overblown because, until some alternative person surfaces, Republicans still cheer for him. Similar to Russians supporting Putin because there is no other. Any protector is better than none at all.

The difference is that we still have a democracy in the U.S., and alternatives and choices can come about.
