Admittedly, businesses have uncanny ways of circumventing difficulties, but this adds unnecessarily to price, and there are limits. Chinese EV manufacturers can set up in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
The broader concern is that the tariffs build an even higher wall between America and China, which makes America less prosperous and secure, contrary to popular understanding. Particularly, they pushed China toward Russia, which was the reason Nixon/Kissinger opened trade fifty years ago.
