Herb Bowie, it can be argued that Democrats contributed enormously to the political divide by their withdrawal from less populated locations, especially across the middle of the country. They diverted their resources to places only where they had chances of winning -- particularly big coastal cities.

This was a big mistake for them and the consequences are very apparent now. Republicans essentially filled the voids with their presence. Not necessarily to do great things for these constituents. But then even an abusive relationship is better than none at all.

It will take attention, money and work for Democrats to correct this problem they have made. They have to talk to people that don't talk like them.
