Credible discussion is essential, and we diminish it by not inviting relevant parties we disagree with or consider less educated. The expression of even bad ideas can trigger good ones.

I recall CNN (town Hall, May 2023) being chastised for giving Donald Trump a platform to spew. "But CNN accomplished much by giving Donald Trump a platform to spew and perform his worst -- and he did."
