Great piece Mike.

I guess instincts not to return anything that once threaten my family and murdered my sheep. The only good snake is a dead snake -- I recall from one of your stories. Bears are much more cuddly to city people than farmers. But if rural folk can get brown bears to stand for them? -- politics could change.

Back in Connecticut we had black bears wondering all sides of the house. They were once all gone but returned to the state when there were again trees to climb. Apparently now the highest density of bears is in towns and not rural parts -- a movement to downtown Greenwich it looks like.
