Yes, first comers don't have a freehold on the market and that's healthy I think.

Pioneering is more risky. Look what happened to De Havilland Comet. It was positioned as the first jet airliner and to dominate the market. But they were prone to blow up in the sky because their fuselages were not strong enough for the rapid change of pressure. Grounded, they opened the market to a later arrival -- the Boeing 707.

Self driving cars present a potentially similar risk to Tesla. But then that coming about successfully would be game changing and fantastic.
