The Trumpers I know are varied.

The latin group are utterly fearful of socialism (also lack of law and order) that they identify with Democrats. Also, the need to be separated from other "latinos" -- preferably to pollo playing white. Brown or person of color classifications adopted by Democrats are pretty much a turn off or insult. Latino males are special because they have an additional "peacock" factor to be reckoned with. Here Trump enhances feathers while Democrats belittle.

The white group are flailing (like your person drowning in the pool) and Trump offers saving, identity and camaraderie in attacking perceived enemies such as immigrants and a bunch of assorted challenging upstarts such as knowledge and arithmetic (though interesting that the annimosity dissipates where there is personal relationship).

The wealthy people I know and who have stuck with Trump this last time around are simply guided by the value of their shares in the market.

Particularly the first two categories are poorly informed and/or quote from sources at the edge of the map.
