I agree that the continued criminalization of drugs in the U.S. multiplies a problem at a personal and family level into one involving almost all others. And it is simply not worth it.

Before cocaine, the step of Federally legalizing marijuanas would set a path. We are inching in that direction but currently there is no compelling political argument for it to move faster. Unfortunate and costly as you say.

More generally, Mexico is not helped by a largely inept President. The poor handling of Covid, economy and foreign relations and particularly investment.
