Glenn Rocess, thank you for your article, though I’m uncertain that you are arriving at the right conclusions.
The black vote in South Carolina certainly determined that Joe Biden was resuscitated from death’s door to become the Democratic Nominee. If Jim Clyburn had endorsed another candidate, would the voters have followed his choice or not? Joe Biden clearly had a relationship with people of the state, but how much was coat tails of Barrack Obama? So what, you would perhaps say, the black vote mattered.
Unfortunately the Democratic race for the White House has an enormous problem. It is now pretty much stuck with a candidate who is not equipped to win — too old, mentally failing and appears not interested in the job (what a waste from a year ago of having a great choice of possibilities). Certainly Jim Clyburn and South Carolina voters are not alone in their awful choice. Your point that Joe Biden made a sweep on Super Tuesday and beyond was because moderate voters had nowhere else to go.
The victory for southern black voters unfortunately is a hollow one. I don’t know where democrats go from here — Donald Trump can be confident about four more years.
Perhaps, Joe Biden could get a note from his doctor saying he is unfit to go on — I think Bernie is hanging around for this moment in history.
