Fun take Rhett Allain.
Never sold on flags myself. I was brought up in New Zealand and the only time flags appeared was when Elizabeth 2 (not the particularly the ship) dropped by to inspect the colony. And, it was mostly school kids waving small flags more because of excitement of the day off rather than celebrating the empire. Anyway, nothing much to do with patriotism. I know that if you hoisted a NZ flag on a pole on your front lawn, you would be chuckled out of the suburb.
When I came to the US I concluded that flag making was just great business and an avenue that Kiwi's had simply missed out on.
