Frances Moore Lappe, credit to you.
Both the voting rights bill and changing the filibuster make sense but the push for them amounts to waste of time and political capital. It also chalks up yet additional failures for all for Republicans to be gleeful and Democrats to despond. Total bad idea and that Biden went along with it (I guess to appease the left). It makes me question his judgement.
A way for Democrats to reverse the erosion of democracy is to return to the local level in places where people now don't look like them.
Essentially they abandoned these places for cities and coasts where they could win. This was a huge mistake because they left a vacuum for Republicans to fill -- and they did. The Democrats contributed to the divisiveness we have today but that can be reversed.
It will take time, effort and money but the party need to support small town and rural Democrats across the country. Opinions are formed at the work place, in churches, business associations, sports clubs and the like. Actually, key elements of voting rights exist at this very local level.
This work cannot be done from Washington. It's like trying to win a war by air strikes alone and without troops on the ground. It's not going to work.
Many thanks.
