For Britain, it can make sense for the Tories to carry on despite the dreadful mess that they have created. There are urgent concerns that have to be addressed, and prematurely having a general election has its diversions and costs.

Better play by the established rules. It will be an enormous task for Rishi Sunak, and he should be given the opportunity.
