Fay, the footnote or qualification is "innocent" life.

Anything else is at own risk.

This was typified by the Reagans, GOP and evangelical embrace of Ryan White, the boy who had contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion and not through ungodly acts. He died along with thousands of others. Ryan however was completely innocent and to many the victim of gay men in America.

An interesting footnote to this story is that the gay community embraced Ryan White into the bigger picture of combatting a deadly desease.
