The retail store, Nordstrom, had an "inverted pyramid" structure, where the customer was on top and ithe salespeople with direct contact with them immediately below, The managers jobs were to provide the needs for those salespeople. Lowest was the CEO who served all above.

The U.S. Military has this structure where the soldier meeting the enemy is precious. And this is one reason why our defense capability is so effective.

Unfortunately, this concept in public life is confused with subservience and weakness when it is strength.
