There is complacency and comfort in believing we won't be affected by adversities and cruelties suffered in places and by people we have little contact with. Bystanders are not innocent.

That said, attention paid to abortion can be underestimated because of its private nature. It has never been a winning issue for Republicans.

A hidden but in our faces danger of Donald Trump is that he normalizes bad stuff to the point where there is no surprise when it happens. Unfortunately, those opposing him contribute normalcy in their misuse of language: fascist, holocaust, genocide, and references to Hitler now have diminished meanings.
