The NRA has lost clout though. There are still powerful gun lobbies and a chunk of the population who get their identity from guns. And, of course, it's so politicized.

Some changes may still be possible.

The term "Gun Control" continues to be used when "Gun Safety" should be in its place. Gun manufacturers can be addressed similarly to auto manufacturers in that there are advantages in making their products safer.

Move the issue into health similarly to seat belts and what we are trying to do with drugs.

Kamila Harris just recently calling for an assault weapon ban does nothing or is counterproductive.

Nicolas Kristof had a great perspective of the issue in the NYT this last week.
