Connections must be made with voters on the ground and where they are. Even helpful administration and legislation from Washington will be unappreciated or rejected without Democrats in place at the local level.

For decades, Democrats have withdrawn from territory they deemed elections unwindable. This was a huge mistake because Republicans filled the difficult and costly voids to undo.
