It would have been preferable to have a competition for the nomination to either strengthen Harris or find someone better. We have repeated the shortcomings of Biden's shutdown of competition.

Kamala Harris raising the polls sufficiently to win is a tall order. She has never enjoyed broad likability and has a history of disorganization and unpreparedness.

Her first big decision of running mate is crucial. It must be hers.
