Time is stretched, almost on hold, in Hopper's paintings. We anxiously wait for the page to turn, hear the piano key, or the light to shift.

Reminds me of endless takes in a David Lean film -- Omar Sharif arriving on horseback to the well in Lawrence of Arabia.
