Excellent article Sean Youra.

Nuance requires work and unfortunately most of us are not prepared for that and so we are left with slogans and sound bites. The person who interupts and is the loudest gets the most attention and we finish up with a room full of people yelling and no one listening.

Maybe we have forgotten that there is a deal when living in social groups like families, communities, towns, cities and even countries. We trade some of our individual freedoms for the benefits (and other freedoms) that come with belonging to society. We drive on designated roads, for instance, and not over others front lawns.

Unfortunately we currently have a bent idea of freedom. It actually requires discipline. Social manners are key and exist for good reason. Without them a simple conversation becomes difficult or even impossible.
