Excellent article, Bob Dumont.

John McCain was a great guy and unquestionably a hero throughout his life. He was probably not a "winning" choice for the Republicans in ways that Bob Dole was not. Both were upstanding establishment figures but out of place and time.

When seniority takes precedence over what is needed, Democrats have also fared poorly. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are examples (Biden won with the assistance of exceptional circumstances). On the other hand, Barack Obama was the right talent for the time and won.

As we advance, Democrats need someone young and extraordinary for 2024. They do not have that in Biden.

Many thanks.
