It was astonishing that China surrendered so much power to one man, Xi Jinping, especially given that Putin's catastrophe due to unchecked authority was so spectacularly in front of them. Xi's misguided policies of continued harsh lockdowns, clamping down on the entrepreneurial class, and obsession with security should have been warnings.

As with Putin's Russia, how America behaves toward Xi's China has enormous consequences for America and the world.
