Eric Scholl, I agree that how a candidate makes you feel, independent of their policies, is key to just who gets elected. Presidents, Obama, Clinton, Regan, JFK and FDR all emitted this good feeling stuff. Bernie Sanders could be elected for the same reason, if his policies were completely overlooked. Other circumstances coinciding — could happen of course.
Interesting about Klobuchar. She is fundamentally different from say, Buttigieg, and I don’t think she realizes it — cannot understand why Pete is besting her, and just gets pissed. Klobuchar does not have the Buttigieg big picture of the world and our place in it — always sounds like she is running for a senate seat and not the Presidency.
Viewed by many (including The New York Times) as a minor mishap, Klobuchar in a recent interview with Telemundo, could not name of the President of Mexico. That was bad enough, but it was apparent that she knew virtually nothing about Mexico (our big southern neighbor and third biggest trading partner). This “detail” of knowledge (and quite possibly lack of interest or importance), painted a picture of someone not yet qualified for the President position.
More astounding, was the (mostly) public brush over of the incident and its ramifications. A god awful and unhelpful message to Mexico.
