Emily Klein, statistically, Americans have been doing considerably better than their counterparts in like economy nations. The mood, however, mostly doesn't reflect that. And gun violence, deaths by opioid drugs, and assault on civil liberties have all increased.

Leadership in many states and at the national level is wanting. The fast upon us, 2024 elections have an atmosphere of anxiety, if not dread.
