Egberto, Democrats can do better by NOT constantly referring to "Gun Control" as this prompts immediate resistance. "Gun Safety" is the better term to address a family, community and national danger.

Sure, McConnell's suggestion is disingenuous. The mental health he talks of is involved in a tiny fraction of gun deaths. But at least it moves the issue in the direction of health.

I think trying to get the issue solved locally can bring more progress than any legislation from Washington. The states are making headway, as you indicate. Individual towns seeing reason could also be helpful.
