Netanyahu fostered Hamas to undermine the PA. He also needed Hamas as an enemy (along with Iran) to keep him in power as Israel's protector. Because of Oct 7th, this became unstuck.

Netanyahu's personal interests are to keep the war going -- as with Hamas.

The damage to Israel is enormous because of the invasion of Gaza.
