The Australian and New Zealand responses to COVID-19 differed, resulting in significantly fewer deaths (relative to populations).

New Zealanders trusted their Prime Minister and systems more. As a nation, they agreed on how to tackle the pandemic and generally followed the rules to keep most people safe.

This was a display of strength, not weakness or subservience. Likewise, looking out for one's mates was the norm in Australia.
