Cory Dakota Satter, the Democrats don't have the votes in Washington.

They essentially need more folk voting for them. Democrats withdrew from local politics across the country to focus their resources in mainly cities. This had a price because the void was filled by Republicans who didn't't actually deliver anything but at least were there.

It will take time, effort and money to change this around but these feet on the ground their efforts from Washington will be limited.
