Cory Dakota Satter, Russia does NOT have a legitimate claim on Ukraine anymore than the UK has a claim on India or Bangladesh. Sovereign countries are just that. They can't just be walked into. And if this is allowed to happen Ukraine and other places Putin can get away with it we could have WWIII.
