Retail banks have long gouged small depositors through fees and exorbitant interest rates on credit cards.

A move to digital currency would close this business for the likes of Wells Fargo, Visa and MasterCard. Apart from the U.S., the advantages to less wealthy folk worldwide would be enormous.
