This student loan forgiveness is a reason for not having presidents sign stuff into law. On so many levels, this is mistaken legislation for the reasons you point out -- inflationary for the long and short term, VERY expensive for less than ZERO long-term benefits, and grossly unfair as it rewards a class that is the best equipped for the future.

Are we to have another president repeat this practice in another few years? When the price of school and loans are even higher because of this recklessness?

Politically it moves the Democrats further into the Elizabeth Warren camp and reassures many opponents of the favoritism of the coastal elite. NOT a good way to win a general election.
