American support for Israel has waned since the invasion of Gaza. There is no great eagerness to send the billions in military aid as the bill can't get through the House. It may be pulled through because of Ukraine's rather than Israel's urgency.

We may be overestimating the power of the Jewish lobby. Because of Israel's war (distinct from any before), more Americans are paying attention, and they don't like what they see.

As the suffering of Palestinians increases by the day, Israel continues to do enormous harm to itself (and America). It has damaged not only the recent relationships with Arab countries but ALL countries -- including the U.S. The hard-won trust built over decades has been lost, with few indications of a recovery any time soon.

We need clever and honest leadership. Netanyahu is clever but not honest, and Biden is honest but not clever.
