Texas gets a bit of a bum wrap because of an administration fiercely clinging to power and old ways. It's probably not too far away that this will change as Texas is currently the biggest attracter of other Americans (predominately from California but also from New York).

Perhaps the opposite of breaking away would serve us better. Much more engagement and spending time in each others places. Beef up exchanges of students cultural and even political etc.
