Caren, yes, we can have a bit more confidence in governors. Both Mayors and Governors have to run organizations and be accountable when things don't happen or go wrong. Senators and especially House members can escape any such liability.

Governors are often not as partisan. Hence, we have Republican governors in blue states and sometimes vice-versa. Often they are valuable voices beyond office. John Kasich comes to mind.

There are governors who seem detached from reason, such as Greg Abbott, but this may be due to the inherent weakness of the governorship in Texas. Ron DeSantis? I don't know.
